Veneers change how your teeth look but do not change how they function. This cosmetic dentistry procedure places thin shells over the front of your teeth, making them look perfect. However, they do not repair damage or have any function other than aesthetics. The team at Aspire Dental Spa has placed veneers for a number of our patients, and they can be the right solution for certain needs.

What Are Veneers?

Veneers are a type of cosmetic dentistry designed to make your teeth appear white, perfectly aligned, and completely whole. To others, your teeth appear perfect, but veneers are not complete teeth. They are fronts made from porcelain and resin. We attach these shells to the front of your teeth, changing how they look. They have little impact on anything else, although it may take you a few days to get used to eating when veneers are placed. Once placed, veneers are permanent, and you will need to have a replacement veneer put on if you lose one.

What Is The Process Of Getting Veneers?

There are two parts to having veneers placed. The first part involves preparing your teeth. We use a tool to remove part of the outer layer of enamel from each tooth. Removing this enamel is the reason why veneers must be permanent additions to your mouth. Without the veneers, your teeth are now less protected due to the lost enamel. If we do not remove some of the front part of your teeth, though, your veneers will not properly fit. After the enamel has been removed, we create an impression of the teeth and decide on what shade of white you want for your veneers.

Since veneers are custom-made to fit your teeth, it does take some time to have them made. Between the appointment to prepare your teeth and the appointment to place the final veneers, we will give you temporary veneers. At your second appointment, we remove these and place the permanent ones. We then have you come in for one more appointment several weeks later to check that the veneers are comfortable and are not causing any problems.

Are Veneers Right For You?

Veneers may be the right option for you if you dislike your smile and want to hide it. Your teeth do need to be in good health, however. Damaged teeth may not have enough support to hold veneers. If your teeth are strong and healthy, though, veneers can hide a number of issues. Stained teeth, as mentioned earlier, can be covered with veneers to give you that bright smile you want. Hiding cracked or chipped teeth can also be done with veneers. This solution can also work to hide misshapen teeth or to cover gaps between teeth. Our office also recommends dental bonding, for certain patients with cracking, chipped, or mishaped teeth.

Before we can determine if you are a good candidate for veneers, we will need to do an exam. We will look at your teeth, your gums, and the rest of your mouth to make certain you do not have any problems that could affect placing veneers or be affected by veneers.
