For quite some time, the standard method of treating misaligned teeth was braces. However, today, there is another option: Invisalign. This modern method of straightening teeth uses a number of aligners instead of metal wiring, making it easier to use and less visible to others. We have a number of patients here at Aspire Dental Spa who have had highly successful experiences with Invisalign.

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a solution for anyone who has teeth that are not aligned properly. Rather than attaching wires to your teeth as with braces, Invisalign uses a series of removable aligners. When worn, the aligner applies a slight amount of pressure to your teeth, slowly shifting them. Each aligner moves the teeth a little more until, with the final aligner, they are in the correct position. The amount of time and number of aligners you need depends on your teeth. Some patients only wear a few aligners over a period of two or three months, while others may need to use Invisalign aligners for a year or more.

How Do You Use Invisalign?

Using Invisalign is very simple: you place the aligner in your mouth and wear it for a set period of time. The first several aligners often need to be worn all day, although you will take them out when you eat. Later aligners, though, may only need to be worn for half the day or for short periods. Each of these aligners has its own goal, and we will need to look at how successful the aligners were periodically. At times, we may need you to wear an aligner for an extra week or two. Other times, you may need to go back to a previous aligner. In some instances, we may never need to create new aligners for you to wear.

How Are These Aligners Created?

Each set of Invisalign aligners are custom-made for the patient. We will have you come in for an appointment that involves taking detailed images of your mouth and teeth. These images will help us determine how your teeth need to move in order to become perfectly aligned. Using computer software, we can create a model of how your teeth will move with each aligner. Once we have finalized the models, our lab manufactures the aligners.

Why Choose Invisalign Over Traditional Braces?

Invisalign is often a better choice than braces for several reasons. The aligners are much more comfortable to wear than braces. They are also removable, and as you progress through the aligners, you do not have to wear them as much. The clear plastic material the aligners are made out of also makes them nearly invisible, so many people will not even realize that you are wearing them.
